Snowfall Began in Istanbul

A Siberian cold front is still affecting the area, and Istanbul is expected to have three more days of snowfall and frigid temperatures.
The Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has warned that snow and rain will continue until February 12.

** AKOM predicts that the city’s temperatures will stay between 5 and 8 degrees Celsius (41 and 46 degrees Fahrenheit) for the duration of the week.
** Snowfall started in the morning on the higher altitudes of Silivri and Catalca, and it is predicted to get worse across the city after 5 p.m.
** It is anticipated that the region will continue to experience winter-like weather patterns due to the chilly and rainy conditions.


Heavy snowfall, freezing temperatures in Istanbul


Overnight, snowfall resumed in Istanbul, with accumulations noted in the higher altitudes of the city. Snowfall was sporadic over the city, with Camlica Hill in Uskudar being one of the locations blanketed. Meteorologists indicate that precipitation will continue sporadically over the next three days.

The Turkish State Meteorological Service forecasts that Istanbul will see varying weather conditions, with rain in lower areas and snow in elevated districts. The storm system will also bring strong winds from the north, reaching speeds of 30 to 60 kilometers per hour (19-37 miles per hour), further intensifying the cold.
